Spirals – episode 14

spirals

FIVE MONTHS LATER

Brian walked out of the hospital thankful for the fact that he was leaving the place. He walked happily to the car looking forward to completing his mission and getting out of Nigeria as soon as he could. Just one mission had proven so difficult and filled with complications, he had prided himself as a man who loved challenges and hard missions but of a truth this mission had been the first one to make him almost regret being an agent.

He had not only lost a finger but also the girl he had known for a short while but seemed like forever and almost lost his life more than once, it still amazed him that he was still alive with all he had gone through in just one mission.

Maybe he was stronger than he thought

He was not supposed to like or even think of getting attached to anyone during missions, it was against the rule; it complicated things and messed his head up. Maybe loosing Susan was the right thing, he only hoped she was safe.

“Looking good Joshua, how are you feeling?” James asked. James was more like the second-in-command at Spirals, he had easy access to the Boss than any other person in the organization, he had been in the organization since he was fifteen years old and was more like the son the Boss never had. He had that clean-model-look; he was handsome almost to the point of being too handsome, something he knew and used to his advantage.

“Alive. Good to see you man” Brian said as he grasped the hand extended to him in a firm handshake

“You did a wonderful job and the boss wanted to come himself but he was a little, umm pre…occupied”

Brian rose up one brow as a smile crept up his face understanding fully what ‘preoccupied’ meant
“Let’s leave this place, getting sick of it” he said

“Yeah. Don’t believe so much in miracles but your case was…” James shook his head.

Brian smiled

*************************

She smiled seductively at him as she walked closer, hips swaying to a rhythm playing in her head

“Boss…” she purred as finger grazed lightly against his skin

“My sunshine” he grinned showcasing teeth stain by excessive use of tobacco.

Few months ago, they had picked her unconscious form from the road while surveying the damage done to the General’s place, that was few hours after Brian’s unconscious body had been found just outside the building, very close to the south gate.

Within those few months he had come to love her and the pleasure she gave. He was not a man satisfied with just one woman, he normally got tired of or bored with them after few weeks, but with her, it was completely different, he was even considering keeping her.

He eyes caught movement on the door and he instantly became alert but relax when he saw James and Joshua walk in. with everything Joshua did, he earned more points in his books.

“Ah my boy, good to see you” he said caressing the back of Susan.

“Boss…” Joshua said

*************************

She turned fully as she heard his voice and froze instantly.

One word in her mind…Joshua. She quickly masked her surprise as different questions went through her mind

How did he survive?

What was he doing here?

She was there yet was not there; she gave appropriate responses when she was addressed but her mind and eyes were just on one man

Joshua.

*************************

Brian quickly recovered from the initial shock that rocked his body. He was confused as to why she was the Boss’ mistress

Was she sent by the Boss to him?

So all he thought they shared was nothing

Why? Of all people, why?

This was the first time he was about to break a rule, only to find out it was not real.

He felt betrayed and disappointed.

He looked at her, eyes locked and he almost forgot his doubts but quickly and forcefully tore his eyes away to keep his sanity.

The earlier he completed this mission, the better for him.
